Welcome

Just as the rainforest understorey provides shelter, nourishment and new growth, The Understorey Collective offers a supportive space for people to strengthen wellbeing, navigate challenges and build meaningful futures.

Compassionate support for young people, families and communities

The Understorey Collective is grounded in the belief that people heal and grow best when they feel safe, heard and respected. Counselling is not about judging where you have been. It is about creating space to understand what has happened, what matters now, and what steps may support change.

Although I am a desert person, the inspiration for this work comes from the rainforest where I now live. The understorey reminds us that growth often happens quietly, beneath the surface, in places of protection, connection and care.

Our approach

Support is trauma-informed, strengths-based and practical. This means we work at a pace that feels safe, recognise the impact of past experiences, and focus on building skills, confidence and connection.

The Collective also recognises that no single practitioner is the right starting point for every person. Sometimes support may begin here. Sometimes it may involve connecting with other practitioners such as art therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, family workers, cultural supports, or other health professionals.

Who we support

  • Young people navigating school, family, identity, emotions or change
  • Parents and carers seeking practical support and guidance
  • Families working through stress, conflict, grief or transition
  • People wanting a safe place to reflect, reset and grow

Begin where you are

You do not need to have everything worked out before reaching out. The first step is simply starting a conversation.
